La Mission archéologique du Bassin de l'Araxe concentre ses activités dans la République Autonome du Nakhchivan (Azerbaïdjan), en collaboration avec l'Académie Nationale des Sciences d'Azerbaïdjan.

Présentation

Il s'agit d'une mission abritée et financée par le Ministère français des Affaires Étrangères (MAE). Le principal objectif est d’étudier les dynamiques culturelles à l’origine des innovations technologiques significatives (notamment la métallurgie extractive) et des changements structurels importants qui apparaissent pendant le Chalcolithique (ca. 500-3200 av. nè). Des membres de l’équipe SAPOA sont fortement impliqués sur le terrain et dans les études bioarchéologiques. Ils travaillent en particulier sur le rôle des pratiques pastorales dans la diffusion des innovations technologiques et la conquête des milieux montagneux.

The activities of the archaeological mission to the Araxes Basin are concentrated in the autonomous republic of Nakhchivan (Azerbaijan), in collaboration with the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. The mission is hosted and financed by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE). The main objective is to study the cultural dynamics that were present at the origin of significant technological innovations (in particular extractive metallurgy) as well as major structural changes that appear during the Chalcolithic (approx. 5000-3200 BC). The members of the SAPOA team are heavily involved in both the fieldwork and bioarchaeological studies. They work specifically on the role of pastoral practices in the diffusion of technical innovations and the conquest of mountain habitats.
